***Update*** We are in contact with our local agencies and will give updates as roads become safe enough to put buses on them. The weather was more than predicted by any forecast, and the travel conditions became treacherous quickly. Making it unsafe for buses. With the warm road temps they believe the snow will be mostly gone or much safer after they treat them. We collaborate with other districts, road departments, and others to try and make the best/safest decisions for our students and staff. At this time staying put seems to be the safest decision.

We understand that our families are seeing a wide range of snowfall amounts. Some have a dusting and some have the ground covered. We continue to assess the situation and stay in contact with our partners locally to make the safest decisions for our students and staff. From the information that we have, it seems like dismissing early and putting our buses in the road now would actually be a greater risk than dismissing at our normal dismissal time at the end of the day. Thank you for understanding as we try to take all situations into consideration and do the best that we can.

We are excited to announce plans to celebrate the PHS Class of 2020. In a normal setting we would love to have unlimited friends and family members in attendance, but Covid-19 had other plans. We will be streaming the ceremony to our families, friends, and loving community members to give them a chance to celebrate with our seniors. More details will be provided so you can “tune in” for the graduation ceremony. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we tried to give our students the best possible ceremony in these circumstances.

Please read, this information pertains to all students at Puxico R-8 School. Good Afternoon! As you know, the remainder of our current school year has been cancelled. We are still working on options for High School Graduation, Kindergarten Graduation, Prom, and other important district events. We aren’t delaying these announcements with the intent of not keeping you informed. The situation of this pandemic seems to change daily and we are trying our best to be as responsive as possible. As soon as we have a clear direction we will provide you with the best options to meet the needs of our students and our families. We have had several requests for students to be able to pick up personal items remaining at school. We have worked to develop a plan to fulfill those requests, as safely as possible. Please share this information with your neighbors or other families of our district, that may not see our FB posts. If you do not need to pick up any items, please do not come. We will return them to you at the beginning of our next school session. We continue to provide meal distributions each weekday for the children in our community. If you would like more information about this service please call us at 573-222-3762 We hope that each of you remain safe and healthy. We miss you terribly, and we can’t wait to see you all again!

Please share to help us spread the word! The COVID-19 pandemic is presenting new challenges every day. This will also have an impact on our local FBLA chapter. We had began the sale of smoked pork butts to help raise money for our members to attend the state leadership conference and compete in various events. However, with the new challenges arising from the pandemic we have decided that it would be best to CANCEL the sale of these smoked butts. If you have already purchased one from a member they should be reaching out to you soon in order to return the money that you had paid. If you do not hear from them, reach out to the member that you purchased from in regards to the return of your money. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but we feel this is in the best interest for all at this time. We thank everyone for supporting our chapter!

As we come together to support Drake’s family and friends we want to thank everyone for all of the love you have shown our school and community. It is amazing how Drake’s story has impacted our community, county, larger surrounding areas, and beyond. We will cling to our memories as we rejoice in our friendships, and we will celebrate when we see him again. You have all heard the stories of this young man: his sweet personality, willingness to help others, spending time with his family, his commitment to his friends, enjoyment of the outdoors, hunting with his friends & family, and many other ways that he has made his mark in our community. Drake may not be with us on this earth, but he continues to be a blessing to others. Please lift the family up in prayer as they prepare to lay Drake to rest. Arrangements will be planned in the next couple of days, and we will pass on the information as soon as it is available.

A special thank you to the Kohn family for welcoming our 8th grade students into their deli today for lunch. KOHN’S DELI in St. Louis is world renowned & has been featured on The Food Network Channel. But most importantly for our trip today, the folks that started the deli were Holocaust survivors who after the liberation, immigrated to the US. Mr. & Mrs. Kohn opened this deli which is still operated today by their grandchildren. Mr. Lory Kohn, the grandson, was grateful we travelled all that way to learn about the Holocaust & he asked us for a group picture with him & we were honored to do so.

What an amazing day! Our 8th graders showed the upmost respect today at the St. Louis Holocaust Museum. They had the great honor of meeting & listening to a Holocaust survivor, Ms. Rachel Miller. Ms. Miller was 8 Years old when the tragic events began to unravel for her & her family. She was the sole survivor out of her parents, 2 brothers & a sister not to mention the 96 other family members who also lost their lives during the Holocaust. Her story is one of tremendous strength & perseverance of any human being. We thank her for sharing her story with us today.

No matter how you look at it, It’s always tough to end a season. No matter the record, no matter the tears, sweat, or utter exhaustion because in the end the memories made during the season will last a lifetime. Those memories & the traditions is what will always bond you together as a team. We are proud of our Lady Indians! A special thank you to all the young ladies who showed the underclassman what the Puxico traditions are, thank you parents for your dedicated support, & thank you coaches for the passion, energy & drive you provided throughout the season!

The Cubs has some good ball handling and great shots, but the Indians brought home victory! The crowd and cheerleaders were great at keeping the guys and the coaches pumped up! What a great way to start the Jr. High Boys Basketball season by celebrating Coach Clinton’s 70th Birthday! The basketball boys planned this surprise for him today at lunch. Needless to say he was very pleasantly surprised & to have the team there to help celebrate this special milestone was even better. The boys presented Coach with a signed basketball & a beautifully, delicious cake. Top notch boys!!! Good luck tonight on your season opener vs. Greenville! Happy 70th Birthday Coach Clinton!
